Hello!

Post: # 181732Post Kayz »

Hi, I have just joined - been meaning to for a while after I got the book!

Anyway just done so now as I have been browsing some of the posts etc.

Moved to Hallatrow in November and we have a lovely big garden so I have started by feeding the birds! I have some fat balls which they seem to love and sunflower seeds which I think have been attacked by the squirrels so my seed feeder is now broken!

We have a little squirrel family that visit there apears to be two adults and small babies which are scampering about. I thought that squirrel's hibernated but i guess someone forgot to tell ours! :?

Today I have bought a ladybird and insect tower. Which I know I could/should of made myself but I didn't have any corrigated cardboard or anything so I cheated! However I guess all the ladybirds are already hibernating? Is it worth me setting it up in a suitable position or shall I wait now for the autumn?

Anyway I also wanted to say hi!!!

Hello Kayz.
Squirrels don't hibernate so they'll be after your nuts all year round  .
Looking forward to hearing from you  .

Blimey, you see I thought squirrel's did hibernate! :?

They have already cleared me out of sunflower seeds meant for the birds - any tips on how I get the birds fed? Should I be looking at the squirrel proof feeders?

I don't know if anybody else on here has tried squirrel-proof feeders but ours didn't last long! . There must be some way of letting the birds get a look-in otherwise it's squirrels first and birds get the rest, sorry I can't be more help :dontknow: .

Welcome to ISH :flower:

In the day light I'll take a picture of our feeders. They arn't 'squirrel-proof' but the furry fiends can only eat one or two at a time. Mind, we don't get squirrels in our garden any more...greyhounds think sqirrels are just climbing rats....
