eco boat
On the news yesterday was an amazing boat which was self sufficient, it had a garden and an composting toilet, it was amazing and I am trying to find a news article about it, but cant remember what channel I saw it on or anothing, did anyone else see it?
Re: eco boat
I saw it too - I think it was in America? Not sure what channel it was on though. Hubby was a bit cynical about it but I thought good luck to them, chances are that what they do on that boat will affect the way they live their lives in the future
If it raises awareness in the meantime and inspires others to have a go then job done, eh?

Re: eco boat
So the "project" will last 5 months... go on tell me it is the 5 months over winter when they will be self sufficient...
... gawd I've got out of the cynical side of the bed today !!!

It's also costing a lot more to set up the whole thing than the TV story led you to believe

Re: eco boat
I seem to remember Carol Kelin (Grow Your Own Veg) saying on her TV programme that you could grow all your own veg for you and your family (I am guessing a family of 4) on a plot that is 3m by 3m squared. Ovviousely this is just veg not dairy or meat.
Re: eco boat
and I thought it was smth like 3 or 4 acres !
3m x 3m is ridiculous !

Re: eco boat
I've seen that figure bandied about before, and all i can say is that the people who use the figure have never tried to actually do it! Wonderful theory, but just try and put it into practice!Helsbells wrote:I seem to remember Carol Kelin (Grow Your Own Veg) saying on her TV programme that you could grow all your own veg for you and your family (I am guessing a family of 4) on a plot that is 3m by 3m squared. Re: eco boat
That's just a joke, you couldn't even grow enough spuds on that small a plot.

Re: eco boat
just looked up John Seymour's book/bible - his "5-acre plot" of good, well-drained soil should feed a family of six, with mixed farming.
it should be called a PR-boat, spin-boat or fantasy-boat !

Re: eco boat
Heh heh,
I have never tried to feed myself on 3m x 3m!! But that was just for veg, you would need 5 acres for animals to grow their fodder.
I like the eco boat, well I like the idea of it, I have been wanting to live on a boat for a while.

Re: eco boat
There is a book about called "sailing the farm" can't remember who by. It has some interesting stuff in it about being self sufficient at sea, although the author does have a "thing" for chlorophyll.......

Seems strange that the eggs come out of the chickens' behinds clean. Wonder if they have the Lion mark and a use by date on too?

Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.
