Hi Shamie, if it's of any help I've been blogging about my experiences of raising chickens for the table for the first time. http://the-cottage-gardener.blogspot.co ... d-day.html
I've kept layers for some years and have killed the odd spare cockerel, but I decided to try some Hubbards this year. It's been a learning curve like all these things, but I'm hoping the taste will be the proof of the pudding!

A good indicator is the state of their feathers. When they've changed from down to proper feathers they may be ready to go outside. Of course, it depends on the weather - if it's brass monkeys outdoors it'll be best to put them outdoors during the day and bring them back indoors at night.

Did you get Ross Cobbs in the end?
