Eco-caravan anyone?

Post: # 17322Post Red_Pepper »

Am thinking of getting a caravan and turn it into an eco-home on wheels, anyone have an idea of how to install a wood burner safely in one? I have a pot belly already! (stove that is!)

I saw the article in Permaculture mag with the eco caravan last year, and it really inspired me.

Just trying to get useful as I have to move out soon! Have only got 2 cats, a dog, and a few bantams. And the kids!

Anyone have field space for 2-3 week visits? can pay rent, just feel like travelling for a while, as am at witts end!

I feel like being different for a while, am going to be home schooling the kids, be nice to meet other smallholders and home educators, swop ideas etc, so if anyone fancies a field lodger for a few weeks let me know!

Have used solar power, am thinking of getting a sllightly larger panel and a small turbine to keep the battery topped up!

mind now going into overdrive!

Any advice welcome, !

Find out how much the stove weighs.
It will probably need to be over the axle of the van, with some form of reinforcement to the floor.

I have seen traditional romany vans and barges with wood burning ranges. They are actually smaller than the household equivalent. Don't know if that makes a difference to you or not.

What are you planning to tow the van with?

Personally I would have a large caravan with a Transit van to tow. Use the huge cylinders of propane for heating/cooking.

Solar panels to drive TV/Computer/Radio and recharge battery.

Let us know how it goes, Pictures! BLOG!

Will be towed with Pajero long wheel base! the stove is only a small one, will be having solar, wind power, and yes will have pictures and website!

Have thought about this for a very long time, am now thinking it will have to become necesary as cannot find new place to move to!

But have always wanted to travel, kids do too, so might be worth a year out maybe!

And you never know what you will find whilst travelling, might find my dream home!
