Greetings from Minnesota USA
Greetings from Minnesota USA
I've been a fan of "Good Neighbors" (as it's known in the US) for years.
I have lived my life, in many small ways, as self-sufficient as possible.
I am about to move to a Hobby farm (as they are known in the US)
43 acres part wooded and part pasture and part being tilled, with a small house, a cattle barn that needs repair and other outbuildings.
I have lots of plans and lots of questions that I will get to later.
I garden now, in town on a small lot.
I brew beer and many wines, My personal favorite is Beet wine with Gooseberry.
Today, I just put into jars, this years saurKraut.
I also press Apple Cider...many gallons, Apples are so plentiful here, and most people
are anxious to give them away for a small portion of the fresh cider or a bottle of fermented cider.

Hi there and welcome! I keep forgetting that Minnesota is so far away - we have a branch of the St Cloud University very close to us!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Welcome to ISH
So if 40+ acres is a hobby farm, does that make the place hubby & I are after, with it's 4.5acres, a big garden?!!!
Enjoy your space, pics would be lovely.

Re: Greetings from Minnesota USA
Hello again,
I haven't logged in here for about 4 years. I seen a "memory" pop up on my facebook newsfeed from 2010 and I mention this wonderful forum. I thought to myself ...HEY, I gotta get back there.
Updates:
I never did get to the hobby farm, I'm still in town and fairly successfull in the selfsufficientish lifestyle. I retired from my job Back in July and am getting use to that. I garden part of my neighbor's yard, besides my own. Next summer street re-construction comes to my neighborhood...good and bad...The good is they will take out my large Maple tree, that will open up all of my west yard for a new garden the tree never let anything grow over there BUT, the bad is I'll loose all the afternoon shade for my house
Anyway, it's good to be back
Jon

Hi Jon!
Quite a lot of the old 'ishers seem to be coming home, so it is good to see you! I have had a bit of a hiatus myself.
Look forward to catching up :-)

Re: Greetings from Minnesota USA
no snow here.
we've had delightful weather, temps above normal, and it appears it will stick around for another week.
I've been riding my scooter as much as possible, in fact I just got back from the store with a gallon of milk...via scooter
Snow/slop predicted for next friday/saturday so that'll end the scooter riding til March
But I do like the winter I'm ready for it.
