Help with smelly bread maker!!

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Help with smelly bread maker!!

Post: # 174264Post Jessiebean »

My bread maker is a bit stinky- it smells like it has a yeast infection( ) I think it is in the steam vents rather than the pan as wiping out and airing the baking bit has made no difference.
I was thinking about putting it on the bake only setting and popping an old lemon with some water in the pan hoping to steam the smell out...
has anyone else had the same problem?

It's funny you should mention it because mine went through a strange smelly phase too - at first I couldn't work out where the smell was coming from but the wierd thing is that it smelt like fuel - by that I mean a gas/oil/petrol type smell, and it wasn't the paraffin heater in the same room either as I kept sniffing that to check!

Eventually (I think) I worked out it was burning linseeds that had got stuck inside, so turned it upside down and gave it a good shake out and now I do that from time to time and all is well.

I'm not sure what you can do about a yeasty smell though.
