Gate Crashers

Post: # 170967Post homegrown »

Is this a world-wide thing or just here in NZ, each weekend we put a trailer stall up at our gate, with free range eggs, Veg, and Seedlings for sale, Most weekends its gone well but this weekend someone stole a dozen eggs right of the stand. It's not that its a lot of money but when your trying to live of your land every bit helps.

we are now thinking of moving the stall down by our house with just a gate sign up top but are worried we'll loose business.

Any thoughts :dontknow:
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

No accounting for the nasty idiot Homegrown :( - but mostly they will be honest folks I guess.
I was at a stall at the weekend and three of us were swapping change so we could put the right amount in the box  oddly none of us swapped change from the box to help with our calculations :dontknow:

Sounds like a brilliant scheme, and if most people are being honest then that's good.

Maybe the person really needed them and will come back next weekend with the money - I know, ever the optimist, but it could happen!

Don't get too disheartened, just maybe a little more vigilant.

I'm afraid if we leave anything on our drive it'll disappear in minutes! We had our tea cups nicked whilst we were weeding a few weekends ago. We had left them on top of the wheelie, about ten feet down our drive. We were on the front, but nearer the house, with our backs to the road.

We have even had bedding plants dug up durring the night. Some people are very sad.

It's worldwide, someone was in our shed last night, opened a new bale of sawdust and nicked some!!
I would not mind giving it if they just asked, I would not like to think of a poor rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chicken............etc. going without clean bedding, but snooping around in the middle of the night and stealing it just beggars belief, I mean, do I look like I bite? GRRRRRHHHHH!!!!

I'm afraid that it appears to be world-wide. Here in rural Norfolk, people are always leaving produce with an honesty-box by the roadside, & invarioubly some bugger abuses it & spoils things for every-one..........t***s!!
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

I had the door mat nicked from outside my front door within minutes of putting it down. And that's on a busy main road in broad daylight.

On the other hand, I've accidentally left my car unlocked on the drive and no b*gg*r took it

The worst thing I had stolen was some green netting. I know that doesn't sound too bad, especially when we've had bikes, motorbikes, car jacks and all sorts of other things stolen over the years, but what makes the netting theft so bad is that they took it to a (very) elderly neighbour's house and used it to dangle through an open top window to catch onto the handles of the bigger window beneath so they could open it and rob her. B@stards!

World-wide. We've had cockerels stolen—definitely not a fox as it I can't see one clipping off the leg rings. We've had eggs stolen out of the nest boxes—and not rats as there were shoe prints in the mud. We've had rows of vegetables taken from the vegetable patch—and not animals as only the larger veg were taken and there were more footprints.

We've also had heating oil stolen, found people in our outbuildings, had a couple of blokes try to steal the Land Rover, and have been offered all sorts of dodgy gear that was supposedly "surplus to requirements".

Muck forks and 12lb sledgehammers serve as reasonable deterrents, while doing the grim reaper routine with a scythe is even more effective...
