We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

Hello, from wales!

Post: # 171136Post abigailoliver »

hello, i currently live in wales, because i'm a student at university in wales. i'm in my 3rd year of documentary photography.

i've been interested in self-sufficiency for quite a while, and until this summer i was living in a low-impact community in south wales in a yurt, called coed hills, where the main purpose was to try and be as self-sufficient as possible, and live lightly on the land. i have also spent quite a lot of time in tipi valley, a community that was set up in the 70's, and is still going today.

So, the reason i'm here is because i would like to do some work, photographic work, around the theme of self-sufficiency. it's clear to see that being green and self sufficient has become a lot more fashionable recently, perhaps because of this 'recession' we are in.

For my project i would like to meet and potentially photograph people who are living in a self-sufficient way, this could be people that are nearly completely self-sufficient, that built their own house, grow their own food in an allotment, or just simple small steps towards self sufficiency such as making your own jam...anything!

through this project i hope to see/show what life is like to be self-sufficient, how easy or hard it is, the reasons why people are trying to live like this, and what the hopes are for the future.

So if anyone reading this would like to be involved in my project, either just for information, or to be photographed just send me an email. i'm looking for anything, however big or small, thats related to living self-sufficiently!

thank you!

abigail.

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Hi Abigail,

I'm sorry to say I can't help you with your project. But welcome and good luck on it. It sounds interesting.

Will you be maintaining a blog or a page on your progress? If so, please let us know where we can peek in on you and your photography.
