Hello there ,
we got 2 big flemish giants , 3 years old ,2 females , got a great patch to roam around on and dig very deep tunnels.
Must be the most lucky two of North Germany .
But this morning one of them was lying down in a strange position , went to her and she seemed to be ill .
So then we phoned the vet , and because it is a celebration day in Germany , no one was available.
Finally in the afternoon we found one , drove down with the rabbit and he found her eye to be infected,he thought
it could be due to a confrontation with a chicken ,pecked in her eye .
Give me some kind of ointment , to be applyed 4 times day , went home put her in her house with extra hay ,food .
Went an hour later to see how she was ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, died F@$(&) !
Anyone heard of chickens pecking rabbits ?
Anyone any idea of how she died ? The vet checked for a fever , temperature , she was fine .
Could it be due to stress of being driven around ?
Can one rabbit live solitair or should I get her a new companion ?
Looking forward to answers ,
regards ,
Paul

Re: lost a rabbit
We were keeping rabbits with the chickens, but found that the chickens would constantly peck the rabbits - not all the chickens, just the frustrated ones low down on the pecking order.
There is no problem with keeping a rabbit alone, domesticated rabbits tend to be territorial and prefer to be alone. Young rabbits can be kept together - we keep the young ones together until they are ready for slaughter. Adults are alone, or mothers with their own young.
