Already panicking about the number of ripe peaches we have, I have just checked our own hedges around our house and find there are loads of sloes and blackberries ready to pick. They seem so early! I can't think they were here so early last year. Not that we actually HAD any sloes last year for some reason, just lots of blackberries.
So any more preserving ideas for these would be useful. Wine is the first thought and I'll take a pile of sloes back with us to the UK next month to add to some cheap Spanish gin we have back there. I'll freeze blackberries for pies later. Has anyone tried juicing them?

The old advice for sloes is do not pick them until they have had a good frost (this is to help soften them up and allow the juice to flow.), however with the invention of freezers you can speed up the process and not have to wait until November.

So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

Frost! It was 100º here today and some of the sloes have already started to dry up on the branches. I think they will just have to spend a night in the freezer in lieu of frost.
I made blackberry gin last year (also raspberry and sloe). As you say, exquisite... and all gone!
