Name that Farm ?

Post: # 16364Post Ireland-or-bust »

Hi all,

Im moving into my new small holding to be in a couple of weeks.

However, it has no name.

Odd as its 300 years old.

Any suggestions?????

My favorite so far is Inshalla Farm from the arabic for god-willing.

Valhalla Farm ~ meaning heaven in Viking lingo? Someone may correct me on this as I do get things wrong sometimes.

You're right shiney
Explain a bit about the farms surroundings so as I can get a better picture, I think the name should reflect the location.
I bet you're dead excited about it all

Do you have any pics of the farm/area... (without giving away exact location of course)

It's so exciting having the opportunity to choose the name of your own farm... we had this opportunity a while back. We decided that it should also be in keeping with the local area... didn't want... dunroamin' or anything such like... I did think pooh corner would have been fun... or eeyore's gloomy place, but I was outvoted lol...

hi all,

thats the problem...

there is nothing really in the area.
its all farms and my neighbours are both beef farmers.
its in a bit of a dip so something hallow maybe?

none of the usual suspects please tho. ie dunroamin.....

there are no rivers near by. no castles. its just farmland with
trees for boarders etc and ditches....

it is gorgeous isn't it!!! I've always wanted to go to Ireland as my family is from there - I think my grandad or my great grandad... was born in Co Mayo... 40 years passed by and I still haven't been...

Will get my thinking cap on too - will have to blow the cobwebs off it first mind.

Bitta history is always worth remembering...

The lands of Chaple were owned by William Doran, Irish Papist, living at Chapple. He owned the townlands of Clonroche, Ballymackessey, Rahingrough, Chapple and Tomfarney. Both families were dispossessed after the Cromwellian wars and sent to Connaught together with thirty others from the area.

What about Doran Hallow?

.... or the Doran Window?

Doran's Downfall, or Doran's Folly. I like the folly one, it should resonate with any SSer!
