Puffballs galore

Post: # 162671Post Carltonian Man »

For interest, it looks to be a good year for puffballs. I found ten or so loitering in one field last week and this morning happened across what must be a puffball hypermarket. There's got to be at least a hundred dotted about this one large field and nearly as many again in a nearby field. I've never seen so many.
As well as the excellent recipe in the Self Sufficientish Bible they're good sliced and coated with flour, beaten egg and oats before frying in butter. Serve topped with melted cheese (and smoked bacon) as a burger in crusty bread. Yum

I'll try that recipe, I know of a a field here where loads about that size and bigger grow. I tried them sliced and fried with butter and garlic but never thought about melting cheese over them etc ... sounds yummy!
