Fajita Mix and other dry seasonings / rubs / coatings!

Post: # 155522Post StripyPixieSocks »

As it seems to be popular I thought I'd put the Fajita Mix recipe up that I used tonight and some others that we make up and use quite alot.

You don't need packet rubbish, just make lots of whatever it is and store in an airtight container... simple, tasty, cheaper than buying ready made mixes and without all the chemicals and 'flavour enhancers' most shop bought mixes are ram packed with!

Anyway this is the Fajita Mix:
http://busycooks.about.com/od/homemadem ... sonmix.htm

This is a recipe for 'Savoury Rice' (the golden stuff you get in packets but waaaaaaaay better):
1 cup rice
1 Chicken Stock Cube (or vegetable... not tried it but it should be OK)
2 teaspoons onion flakes
2 teaspoons dried green bell pepper
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
pinch salt

Store in airtight bags or container.
Cook following directions on rice package and serving sizes.

Optional Extras: Raisins

This is awesome cooked then cooled for a salad or even taken to a BBQ but is equally nice hot!

... and a nice hot beverage:

Cafe Vienna Beverage Mix

1 cup instant coffee
1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 2/3 cups non-fat dry milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix thoroughly and put into a blender a couple cups at a time and blend to a fine powder.

To use: Add approximately 2 rounded teaspoons per cup of boiling water, or less, to suit your own taste.

Feel free to add any of your own as I love collecting these recipes!

I've got some store cupboard mixes that I collected when my gal was off to uni, if you're interested?

She's vegan so they're all of that ilk, but could easily be converted to veggie, or omni, if required.

The fajita mix surely should have smoked paprika in it or it won't have the smokey taste

Did you know you can get natural hickory smoke powder ?
I got some a couple of months ago and it really is authentic and of course you can add it to anything you like.
