garlic and brassicas!
I heard the other day that water infused with garlic sprayed on brassicas would keep the dreaded white butterflies and their voracious offspring at bay - has anyone tried it, if so does it make the plants taste of garlic?!

Re: garlic and brassicas!
many thanks, I'll give it a try, last year the caterpillars reduced most of my brassicas to skeletons despite every efforts to stop them

Re: garlic and brassicas!
yep, got them netted too this year, I will beat the butterflies!!

It may be the high oxalic acid content of the rhubarb leaves that is doing the trick. I wonder if making a tea of the leaves would make an effective spray? It would be less stinky! I know oxalic acid is the main ingredient in wood stripper so it must be potent stuff!

My bro in law, who is a whizz at the allotment game, swears by getting two cloves of garlic (crushed) mix with two table spoons of washing up or bio friendly soap, mix with water. Spray it on the plants, especially broad beans, blackfly etc hate it.

I might just try one suggestion on some of the brassicas and the other on the rest and see what gives the best results!

I use the Rhubarb leaf spray for whitefly and blackfly- works quite well. Didn't know you could just water and have the effect- might try that
