We had 2 rhubarb crowns here when we moved in - but they were near to the derelict and knowing what happened last year with the pup (he loved 'rolling' on them!?) I first put a tyre over them to protect them.. and so they grew....
Then we decided where to put the chicken house... and the rhubarb would have been inside the run, so I moved them to the veggie patch....
And nothing... they obviously don't like to be moved, the stalks haven't grown any further, the leaves have just discoloured and died. But we're hoping that NEXT year, we have proper rhubarb! In fact, I made a nettle feed up & shall go splashing that around today while I'm out dealing with the thousands of weedlings in the beds.
I heard that a comfrey feed is just great for rhubarb, but I'm sure I haven't got any comfrey.... I have lashing and lashings of ground elder though.... shame I can't use THAT to help use it somewhere useful!
