Ideas please - folding beds

Post: # 155045Post snapdragon »

On starting to clear the loft in order to lay more insulation I found two fold up beds that my boys used some years ago - no mattresses (I reckon they went to the dogs home - they were 2 inch foam) just a frame with a mesh spring, the 'legs' tuck up and they fold in half. I tried to freecycle them, but it seems no-one's in need of them locally. The frames are tubular steel.

Anyone got one of those wonderful things - errm you know - errm ---Ideas!! thats it :? for re-using 'em ?
Or even does anyone need them?

Um, no ideas at all cos I have one of these things gathering dust in the corner of a spare bedroom (which already has a bed in it). When I've actually used the folding bed (not much) I just used the mattress that came with it put on the floor!!!

Although I have just recently gone through a load of old tablecloths (which don't fit any table that I currently have) and took one out and threw it (artfully!) over the bed frame, so I kind of found a use for something that wasn't being used any more.

The old men use them as wild boar proof fencing for their veggie patches round here.

If you can find your local scrap man he will take them away and get money for them. At least that way they are recycled and someone earns some money.

If you can get them to your local amenity tip there may well be an area for scrap metal which will be recycled.

Could you get/make new cushions for them and use them as sun loungers in the garden?

Dismantle them and use the springs to make some garden art?

Could the mesh be used to train climbing plants? Could it be bent around to make the frame for growing veggies under, covered with fleece or netting?

Are they big enough to make into a chicken run?

Could you put a board on them and use as pasting/car boot tables? Probably a bit low.

Cheers
Zoe

quick check of the forum whilst waiting for rug wool to stew in an onion skin dyebath I just had a thought - I may be able to re-fashion one (frame without the spring bed) into a rug loom? 6 foot by 3 foot rug (or slightly less allowing for weaving area/loom size difference.

I'll need to attach wood so I can make a warp separator but there are the holes where the spring bed hooks in - self tapping screws? anyone know if that would work?

steady - am getting excited :blob3:
