Help please courgettes

Post: # 152902Post MEL78 »

Hi I after some advice have grown some courgettes from seed as per instructions and they are on my windowsill awaiting planting however the instructions say not to plant out until end of May the problem that I have is that they are coming into flower now..will it be safe to plant them out now I am in the north east of england also should they be covered when they do go out.

Would be grateful for any advice
Thanks\
Mel

Have you got a small greenhouse or something you could put them in?
If not then you could just start by putting them outside during the day to "acclimatise " them (not sure I spelt that right!) for a few days then try leaving them out on a patio, then plant them out. They should be ok. My courgettes are outside thought they are only just shooting.

As long as you can protect them from frost, they will be fine. I have found them resilient to slugs once they are past the seedling stage but a frost will kill them instantly... oh, and they don't like being disturbed... keep that in mind for planting them out.
