Egg size

Post: # 151122Post dave45 »

Our White Star has been laying for several weeks but yesterday she laid one the size of a duck egg - a lot bigger than normal. Today the size is back to normal again. What determines egg size? Can we expect this to happen with all hens now and again? Our son was thrilled when he found it...

she is our smallest hen too :-)

When my girls first started laying the sizes varied enormously. One day they would be really tiny and the next huge! Mine settled down after a while. I have no idea what determines the size but they do seem to vary from day to day and hen to hen.
