'Allo all,
I know this is a bit of a strange question and I wasn't sure quite where to post this, but if you want to set up a place to support just your own family, which will include, say, chickens, pigs and vegetables, is 'smallholding' the correct descriptive term, or is it something else?
Thanks in advance!

Correct Definition?
Re: Correct Definition?
Yes I think it is a small holding, though I refer to my own 1/2 acre of land as a mini holding

Depends where you are. In the US that's a homestead.

Re: Correct Definition?
if you want to be fussy about these things i think a smallholding is a parcel of land under 50acres and used to grow crops and keep livestock ; if there are no animals it becomes a market garden.
dont ask me where i got the figure of 50 acres from it is just in my head from somewhere that this is the amount of land that is need to be a farm
hope this has helped
