Help!!!
Help!!!
I just went to put my chickens to bed (they wouldn't go in their house but thats another thing)
There was reddish poo in the run (looked a bit ketchup, with bits in)
Help!
They are both bright and friendly, neither looks ill, is it possibly the stress? I just read that they can occasionally shed the lining of their stomach....
I am worried though, any thoughts?

Re: Help!!!
Hello,
Does it look like one of these by any chance ?
http://overthegate.myfreeforum.org/ftop ... 0-asc-.php
I had another website for chicken poo with various descriptions but can't put my hand on it.
But I would say that you don't need to worry unless you think the seller was a bit of a conman ...
Good luck with them
Camile

Thank you, I was seriously considering breaking my diet, with a take away till I looked at that, now perhaps not!!!
Annpan, did they find their way home ok?
the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........

Re: Help!!!
Glad I could be of some help !

Re: Help!!!
Thanks Camille, I had actually found that website, from a link that red put up a while ago. It might have been the intestinal lining type.
John Headstrong dropped off my chooks, he said the seller is a good'un and as I say the girls are bright and lively. I hope it has cleared up by the morning, worried a trip to the vet might be on the cards
Not even had them a full day yet
Mr +Ms Lucpie - They had been in their house, then they saw me going up the path and snuck out again to see what goodies I had for them, so I ran out 10mins later and closed the door before they had the chance to be nosey

Dunno Ann - its a tad worrying.. cos it could be something .. then again... maybe not. perhaps take a good look at the droppings in the house in the morning..
They certainly look ok, tails up an all.

Re: Help!!!
Yip, tails up, bright eyes, flocking (if that is what you can call it, there are only 2 of them but they stick together quit a bit) lots of looking up at me, and running over when I approach the run. I swear I can hear them call "Mummy, Mummy, Mummy!"

When I go into the hen run, i alway have to gently shove one of mine back in through the door, as she always rushes out to me...

Re: Help!!!
They are Hy-line browns - I guess docile friendly animals are easier to deal with on a large scale, so they are probably bred that way.

Re: Help!!!
Update: *TMI warning*
They are still alive
This morning I checked in their house and found no yucky poos, a few runny ones and a solid one (I'd imagine done by different girls?) - at least one had found her way up to the perch so thats good news.
I watched them for a while and saw a poop emerge from one of them and it looked fine, no cause for concern - I wonder now if it would be best to try to see them both poop to make sure all is well?
By the way... should I be clearing out the poo as I go, or just leave it in and clear it out once a week or so? we plan on moving the run every few days so I am more concerned about poo in the house.

Re: Help!!!
we clean our house out every week, and we have 12 birds in there. So once a week sounds fine, gives you a chance to check for red mite etc too, whilst you are there. Chicken poo accelerates the compost :)Annpan wrote: By the way... should I be clearing out the poo as I go, or just leave it in and clear it out once a week or so? we plan on moving the run every few days so I am more concerned about poo in the house.
yeh, i would check they are both doing normal poos.

Re: Help!!!
Gosh, I have been cleaning out mine twice a week and I only have 4 - maybe I can relax a bit! I guess they perch so they are not sitting in their poo overnight, but then they tend to do it alot in the nesting boxes - do you clear these out more than the run?
My house is really small though (about 1.5m squared) so it looks worse than it is I think. I generally take out the top layer of newspaper every day and scrunch it up and put it in the compost.
They poo for england!

Re: Help!!!
They seem to be fine - must have been an intestines shedding as I suspected (unless they get any kind of period bleeding???) both are fine and are pooing normally - gosh they poo a lot though don't they?
MIL (townie) met them this morning - she asked which one was the boy
, and she had named them within 3 mins - I refuse to give them names, they are not pets, sorry guys but it took me 3 months to name the cat, because apparently calling her 'Cat' wasn't suitable
Back out to sit beside them when having a cup of tea... they are better than TV
