Should we be worried???

Post: # 149012Post Big Al »

Because I used to export my candles to Europe I was a subscriber to the EU times, a glossy booklet that let you know of all the legislative changes and proposals due in the next 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. I’m still on the mailing list now and saw this bit in the news section.

There is a bill going to be put on the statute books of the European parliament in the autumn to outlaw “green type” websites that do not offer a balanced and thoughtful approach to the environmental issues of today.

April Jeden, MEP for Guttenstaten, has proposed this piece of legislation and she was replying to a question in the parliament by the British euro skeptic party UKIP. The UKIP member asked what constituted a “green type” website and why these type of website had been targeted for this treatment when a lot of other websites could be seen as irresponsible in their content.
Ms Jeden, a member of the Francist social party said that many readers of these sites could be “offended and extremely worried” by the irresponsible and sometime misleading content regarding so called “environmental concerns”.

She continued that “at present there was nothing to stop any person from making and uploading a website which had no credible evidence, research or informed debate to the effects of global warming and other debatable issues and as such these sites need to be closed down especially as the jury is still out on the true effects of the so called climate change”.

When challenged about what type of websites could fall foul of the law Ms Jeden’s reply was all of those that had not applied for the European registration mark Envirodoi:10.1017/S17445523010409.Web. Within 6 months of the publication of the legislation.
