I got a recycling bin

YIPEE!!!!

I wrote to the council about 6 months ago and got a standard 'we collect 17million tonnes of refuse every week, 43 thousand recycling boxes, 4 recyling centres.... blah... blah.... blah...." I had to send the same letter again highlighting the parts where I said
I do not have any adequate recycling facilities
I do not drive
I have a young child and I am not willing to walk a mile to get a bus 5 miles to my local 'recycling centre' (that is a dump to you and me)

What I had asked for was a single giant wheely for the whole village but we have all been delivered our very own blue wheely bins... only problem is we are mostly terraced with no rear access.

But still

No more feeling guilty about putting a tin in the bin

Oh Annpan WTG you    fantastic news :) We have lots of recylcing bins here, 1 grey bin for normal waste, 1 burgundy bin for bottles, tins and plastic , 1 green bin for garden waste and peelings ( which I hope will be mostly redundant once I have my own compost bin up and going :) ) and a beige bin for nespapers and magazines and cardboard :)
I thnk you have done a fanatastic thing there :)

I think it is quite common to have this single box system - it is taken to a sorting centre and goes along conveyor belts where it is sorted by magnets, bumpy sieving type techniques and then by hand.

Well done honey - someone needs to put a boot up their collectives parts. Up here the recycling is very rudimentary - we've got bottle, can paper and clothing bins up in the village square but the "tip" (2 huge skips) gets most things chucked onto it still - good place for hunting through though!
