Anyway need to go back out and finish it off
I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
Just came in for a breather - we had put the frame up 2 weeks ago but the weather has been lousy so the plastic couldn't go up.... But today is still and clear so I wrestled it myself
..... and I do mean wrestled....
Anyway need to go back out and finish it off

Re: I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
Have you got it planted up yet ????
Well done you, I know it can be a struggle with two people, but on your own ... wow.
When the cover is totally fixed it doesn't matter what the weather is like, you can go out there and play to your hearts content.

Re: I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
I have the kitchen windowsill over flowing with stuff that has to go into it.... sadly I had forgotten that 2 year olds seem to rather prefer being a nuisance, 'helping you', crying because there is no door on the tunnel to play with, crying because you won't push the bike around for them........
.... I had got most of it done while she was napping this afternoon.
So now, we are back in the house... I have pinned the plastic down with some bricks in the trenches while I wait for Dad to come home and look after Shortie so I can go out this evening..... no dinner for me tonight then.... *sigh*
I literally couldn't wait for it to go up... driving me mad sitting here when it is raining outside....

I put mine up on my own so I know what you have been through, the twins where at school at the time
Re: I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
Well, still didn't finish.... I did get back out and did part of the doors and some of the trench, finding it near impossible to get the tension right on me tod... Plenty of chunks of rubble sitting on the plastic in the trenches, so it'll keep like that for a day or so.
OH is off Thurday and E is off at grandparents so
I should have plenty of time to build the beds and get some bits planted up too
Lets hope for good weather and no freak hurricanes in the next 48 hours...

Re: I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
Well, considering my current state (some kind of pulled tendon in my finger, huge bruises on my leg and arm from falling up some stairs this morning) I would be quite happy to be a feak and weeble woman.... Just nothing get's done that way so I might as well get on with it
I do have a height disadvantage though, I'm 5' 7" I'd imagine that an extra 4 or 5 inches would have been very helpful... I wonder if you can get platform welly boots...lol

No, sorry .... I realise that you are in a fragile state but I must point out that it is impossible to fall UP.Annpan wrote:huge bruises on my leg and arm from falling up some stairs this morning

I can understand you being frustrated, but once it's done you'll never look back. Think of all the happy hours you can spend in there when it's raining
When I need to get something done in my greenhouse or garden, I give Katie a big tub of compost, a trowel and a plant pot so she can make mud castles. She's got a little sand tray with bucket and spade, but she much prefers my toys

lol... Well my foot caught on the lip of the bottom stair, tripping me up.... my leg hit the front edge of that stair and my arm the next step up.... therefore falling up stairs.Odsox wrote:No, sorry .... Trust me if there is a possible way to injure yourself while doing something completely safe.... I'll find a way.... I also fell through a stair gate a few months ago and once got my leg stuck down a hole in the pavement.... I have never cut myself, or fallen off ladders, or off my bike, or anything else that would normally be considered dangerous.
Thanks for the tip Rosendula, I'll have to try that one. She does like to 'help' me..... a handful of dried peas as seeds might go down well too.

Bloody hell, Ann, it took 4 of us to put the plastic on our tunnel!

Re: I'm putting up my poly-tunnel...
Getting the plastic physically up over the frame was the easy bit.... then you have to weigh it all down, bury it in the trenches and get it 'drum tight'.... what a nightmare...
We managed to get the side trenches and one end trench filled - we used the mountain of rubble that came with the house, still need to put tops soil on 50% of it. But time was short and we had to leave one end undone... and the wind picked up... All is well but we did try to finish it off today in the wind and the rain and it was impossible, we need to get another warmish day to finish it now (the plastic will just not pull tight in the cold and wind.)
Still... it is up and nearly finished and I have trays and trays of seedling sitting in it (much brighter and just marginally cooler than my kitchen windowledge)
It does look like a huge poly-tunnel at the top of the garden though... not that I was expecting it to look like anything else of course but it is somehow more visible that I thought it would be.
And can you believe the cheek of the first-tunnels website that you can put it up in 2 days... HA!!!.... plus just noticed that they now have 10% off...grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
