Sausage maker

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Sausage maker

Post: # 147151Post carolinew »

Can anyone recommend a sausage making machine to me, please?

I am already able to make my own mince, if there's a cheaper sausage maker which is good, which doesn't mince.

I have MASSES of leftover beef which I want to turn into sausages. Plus, DH will be starting to breed rabbits for meat soon, and I plan to make bunny sausages then, too.

I really like the idea of making my own sausages - especially as I can't eat wheat, and there's wheat in most bought sausages. Just hoping that someone can point me in the right direction for a decent sausage maker which doesn't cost a fortune. The prices seem to go from £20 to £400!!!!

Hope some of you sausage makers out there can help

do you prefer hand powerd or motorised?

we have a porkert one thats like an old style mincer with a sausage attachment. works ok but is hard work. and really a two person job. alternatively you can buy attachments for mincers/kenwoods. still easier if there are two of you!

I make all our sausages and once you start you will understand why

I have a attachment for my Kenwood but I don't like it at all, it's a two person job as Red said and far too uncontrollable.
I use a hand operated one called King Chef Sausage Maker that I've had for years and works just like a silicon sealant gun.
I seem to remember when I first got it it came with collagen skins and seasonings as well. Don't know if they are still around but it wasn't expensive and hand operated you can work at your own speed.

All the sausages I make now have bread rusks (as I make that too) but in the past I have used TVP which works very well and of course no gluten.

I have a simple mincing machine that has the sausage funnels to go on the front. Totally controlable and can be a one man job if you keep the skins wet. This lets the meat drag the casing off the tube if it's wet but not if its dry hence the need for 2 people, 1 to crank and 1 to make the case move.

http://www.weschenfelder.co.uk/ these are the ones I use for my products. They do have a lot of "industrial" machines but I'm not into 100's of pounds of sausages at a time, lol.

I've used a piping bag quiet sucessfully, but not recommended if you want to make a lot!
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli
