Hello from Aland, Finland

We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

Hello from Aland, Finland

Post: # 146858Post LizzieTawdry »

Hello from Aland, Finland.

Love this site, come by every now and then but have finally got round to joining the forum; so this is just to say hello!

I've lived more self suffiecientlyish in the past (self build strawbale retrofit/composting toilet /veg garden or at least access to local organic smallholders market stall in S. France) which was fab, but had to move on and now in the chilly north, living on an island group in the Baltic sea between Sweden and Finland. It's a bit more challenging (and to be honest, depressing compared to previously described situation) here to eat seasonally and locally (in fact it can be impossible at times if you want some vegetables in your diet) but me and my OH do our best. Otherwise, we are still lovers of second hand stuff and the make do and mend attidude!

Now I'm off to explore the rest of the forum and ask questions on the re-use of bubblewrap.....
bye!

Greetings from Ireland.

By the way, I am a radio ham and I often talk to other hams on your island.
Aland is a rare "country" in amateur radio circles and every summer there is always several visiting groups to put the island on the map.
But I'm sure you didn't need to know that

Disclaimer: I almost certainly haven't a clue what I'm talking about.
