Chicken question

Hi, I'm new to all this. I got a couple of Black Rock hens at 6 weeks old, they've settled in fine and are really friendly. They're now 11 weeks and I'm wonder roughly when to expect some eggs from them?

Egg production can start at anytime between 18 to 21 weeks of age, so you could have a bit longer to wait, some will start earlier, our Black Rocks started at about 18 weeks way before the Rhode Island Reds. Point of lay birds (POL) are usually sold at 16 to 18 weeks.

Thats great thank you, I thought we had a bit longer to wait but knew each breed was a bit different

yeh around the 20 week mark. but with luck they should give you eggs through the winter in their first year.

oh definately, that would be great. they don't seem to mind snow and blizzards, even this young, they're out in all weathers

It's surprising just how hardy they are isn't it. I wonder whether some breeds will cope with our weather better than others.

i think there are some breeds that cope better, when i was choosing my breed it did say that they have thick plumage so mind mind all weather conditions
