1000 exaltations to you Julie. I'm waiting for a banding op but have to lose the obligitory 2 stone "to show some effort2 what the bloody hell have i been doing these last 25 years !!!

Being ready for a wheelchair doesn't exactly help in the gym department but hey ho....

I know the banding is for life as they don't take it out round here so if you start to put on it's a simple case of re inflating so I'm told but I'd be too scared to go your way so again 1000 exaltation to you. :salute:

I totally hear what you're saying there Al - especially about losing the first 2 stone anyway - oh, makes me mad!!

I have to say though, one of the main reasons for going the way I did was the ongoing 'aftercare'.... we paid privately in Manchester - had the op on saturday & was back on the ferry home on the monday.... and that was that!

I should have had a follow up after the first 6 months, then again at 18 months, but at 6 months I just popped along to my own doc for a blood works which was fine. If I thought I would have to go back for adjustments here & there, it would have put me off completely!
So really, it wasn't brave - but it's been a journey... and I'm glad I did it, especially now... although I must admit, an 18 stone stubborn woman tugging on a bramble root gets the root out... a 9 & 1/2 stone weakling tugging on the same root gets tugged back twice as hard!!

JulieSherris wrote:So folks....

On Sunday, it will be my 1 year anniversary of my gastric bypass operation....
And apart from another 7 pounds, I've lost half of myself!!!

I started out at 18 stone last March, & now weigh in at 9st 7lb.....
OK, I know I still have to wait another 6 months for my weight to stabilise now (and yes, it could even go up a touch yet) but I feel GREAT!
I've had no back aches the last few months, I can run... altho I try not to  and I can buy clothes in normal shops! Altho I don't... well, not many anyway.

OK, it's not very 'ish' but as I've dumped the weight forums, I needed to celebrate somewhere, so here we are!!
Yeah, there's a few saggy bits, but not half as much as I thought there would be & at nearly 50, what would I expect anyway?

So I just thought I'd share.... and we're planning a new 'photo shoot' at the weekend, so I'll make sure to pop some pix up!
CONGRATS!!!!

One of the rather rude GP's I saw a while ago suggested that kind of surgery but the risks far outweigh the outcome for me do I do admire you for doing it though and losing all that weight... I'll just keep going the hard way lol hopefully I will get there eventually!!

I hope it all carries on going well for you, you're an really nice lady and you deserve to be happy and at the weight you want to be!!!

Look forward to seeing the pics :)

W O W !!!

Good grief and you've lost 20 years as well! Well done to you. The only thing that surprises me is that I don't think you looked as much as 18 stone in the 'original' photos - were those photos taken before the op?

You are absolutely amazing - really well done you. You LOOK great and I'm thrilled that you feel as good.

I have a friend who is about 22 stone; she lost 5 stone through weight watchers but got so depressed because she said her skin had lost its elasticity; she reckoned she looked and felt worse about herself than before so put all the weight back on.

Do you mind me asking how you got around that? I mean, you look FAB! Are there any words of wisdom for her? She is in her mid thirties, so I would think that time is on her side, right? Or are people's skins really that different?

CONGRATULATIONS; I hope you are really, really proud of yourself

My 'original' pix were the ones of me in a brown top, grey trousers, but I was about 16stone then.... the one of me & leah - very windy, me in a blue top, were actually me the week before the op..... me in the pink t-shirt were at 6 months in.... and the others are today
Like I said, I hate having the camera around, so would always dodge the pix... I'd make sure I was the other side of the lens

Now, this is a time thing.... although I must admit that I expected a whole lot more sag than I've got at the moment!
Mind you, I need to wear a sports bra (think basset hound ears  ) but when I was discussing the whole thing with the doc, he advised that firstly, I wait 18 months before I take my 'final' weight... and then after that if I think I need any further surgery (which at the minute, I wouldn't - bit stoopid & incredibly vain at my age) then you should wait at least a year for the skin to do it's natural work. After that year, anything that still 'hangs' will never go back to it's original position & you make the decision from there.

As a general thumb, I've always understood that for each stone in weight that you lose, your body needs approx 2 months to adjust - so if someone loses 5 stone, then they should wait a good 10 months before deciding whether they need constructive surgery.
A friend of mine had just about the full works - she had a boob job, a full tummy tuck, a bum lift, liposuction & her upper arms done - she also had a face lift & a nose job too..... cost her an absolute fortune! But then, she was only 26 & looked absoluelty beautiful after... apart from the arm surgery, which left her with horrendous scars, she didn't regret one moment of it.

Anyway, thank you for all your messages - ooohhh, I will take a few more pix in another 6 months - ha!

Ahhh, I see - that is excellent advice. I don't know whether she knew that and decided to be impatient or had never been told.
I will share that with her when I next see her.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge here!

My pregnancy belly will never shrink then :( My Bump was huge... The doctors thought it must be twins or more and 2.5 years on it is still a big empty sack of skin :pukeright:

Oh well...

You look amazing Julie, but then, you know that  You also look (and sound... or should that be type?) happier and I'd imagine you have loads more energy to keep up with the little 'un :thumbright:

Thank you Ann... We were looking thru the old photos yesterday & Leah said she likes the 'new' nanny better because she runs in the garden... but the old nanny was more comfy for her to sleep on...
Huh, says the kid who's put on about 5 lb in 2 years!

Then again, below is her very favourite nanny & she wants to come out with me on my broom later this year.....
