This is actually more like a cake than bread but an old Native American/Western recipe
15 oz pumpkin puree, tinned or fresh
235ml veg oil
4 eggs
440g self raising flour
600g white sugar (although i cut this down to 400g usually)
7g baking soda
9g salt
3g ground mixed spice
5g ground nutmeg
5g grounf cinnamon
5g baking powder
Combine pumkin,oil and eggs.
Sift together dried ingredients.Combine these two mixtures, blending thoroughly.
Pour into 3 greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pans and bake at 300F,150C,Gas Mark 2 for about an hour or until knife comes out clean when inserted.
I have to admit that i do sometimes play around with the amount of spices depending on whether who I am making it for likes cinnamon or mixed spice. it is possible to put less of one and more of another in.
I have also made this in a 2lb and a 1lb loaf tin quite well.
hopefully everyone's will turn out well, please ask if any questions.

Re: pumpkin bread
I have a pumpkin tea cake recipe that I have used a few times - delicious warm with a bit of melty butter.
The recipe is much like the one you have posted but calls for a couple of handfuls of dried fruit - I usually just use raisins, and sometimes a few crushed walnuts.
I also make a ginger spiced pumpkin bread for a savoury aperative snack - that again is just a spice substiution and only a fraction of sugar.
Thanks your posting your recipe - inspired me this miserable sunday morning - off to do some baking now.
