Native American Fry Bread

Post: # 145552Post matowakan »

There are many recipes for this item which I always think is a cross bewtween a doughnut and a scone.
Very easy to do anywhere.

2 cups sr flour
1 tsp salt
3 tspn baking powder
2 tblspns sugar
approx 1 cup milk

Mix flour, salt, sugar and baking powder together. Add milk and mix to a stiff dough.

Turn onto a floured board and pull off small pieces and flatten then in your hand ( a bit like making naan bread)
These can be any size you want.
Drop into hot oil and let it sink.
It will rise to the top, when sides turn brown turn over. Takes about 3 mins per side.
Serve hot with maple syrup or a mixture of cinnamon and c sugar.

Could also be used for a savoury dish if sugar left out.e.g. chilli
