Hi Everyone,

I'm a 23 yr old SAHM to an 8 mth old beautiful baby boy (who is the reason we are trying to be more self-sufficient and switching organic)

My husband and I are really excited about trying to grow some of our own veg as we get through an awful lots with the baby ~ he's had organic baby jars til now but have decided we all deserve better so homecook organic for us all now.

We are in limbo at the moment though as we may be moving from West Yorkshire to just north of Edinburgh depending on the outcome of hubby's job interview.

Am interested in cooking - would like to bake bread and bake more in general, Have made Jam but want to branch out a bit more this year.

hope i haven't bored anyone to tears ~lol

hope to get to know you all
~I came, I picked, I preserved~

~If I always try harder than yesterday to make a difference in the world, one day I might just make it~

Hiya newbiemum!!

Welcome to the board - can't think of a better reason for switching organic etc than a little one.

Best of luck with your hubby's job interview - Scotland is a great place to live

Hey, just been talking about baby food on another site - if you are planning to make your own baby food then why not save the baby jars you have at the moment, wash and sterilise them and use them to put the stuff you make in.

My kitchen smells delicious at the moment as DP has made two loaves, an onion and anchovy tart (with bread dough as base) and is just making a beetroot chocolate cake. It's amazing... I've been studying so not in the kitchen much today, but the results seem ok, so perhaps it's time to let him into the kitchen more

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hello there! Welcome!
I think when you have offspring it's when you start to think a bit more deeply about where, how and why your food is made, I know that's what happend with us....We cared before, don't get me wrong, but we actively did something about it once Callum was on his way (now 5). I'm sure you'll find loads of folks on here that you can identify with, and some on here are real fonts of wisdom, I have learned loads....
Once again a warm welcome to you,

Kind thoughts
Deb

Hello and welcome newbie mum

If you are unsure if you are moving or not can I recommend that you start a bit of a container garden? Have a look around the main site for a bit of advice. Will just mean that you will get more growing time for stuff with a long season.

good luck to Mr man with his Job interview. :andy:

A great idea - BUT... do not make the mistake I did and plant a herb garden in a half barrel!!! Way too heavy to move, especially if you are planning a long haul.

In two years that baby boy will be in danger of discovering where carrots come from and then no plant in your garden will be safe, believe me. Welcome!

G'Day Newbie Mum!

Our pair are 23 & 24 so that part is well behind us! I'm still trying to interest my younger daughter in veggies  .

Welcome to the site, I hope we can give you the help and encouragement you need!

(Beetroot chocolate cake? sounds disgusting! How does it taste?)

Hi Newbie Mum,
When I had my first baby (now 4) I became very aware of what was in everything as he had a mild reaction to some preservatives. Started to read a bit about food and I am now trying to grow the majority of our veges and some fruit. A bit scary when you realise what actually gets put on our food in order to grow and deliver to the supermarkets so that everything looks nice.
Nothing better than a jar of homemade jam. This year I had mulberries picked so that 'Mum could make mulberry jam'.
ask questions, learn and have fun.
