Seeing as I'm due to move into a new house in about 2 months, I thought I'd check out the Ideal Home Show tomorrow. Has anyone been? Is there much focus on self-sufficiency/recycling/alternative energy?

Their marketing makes it look pretty cringe-worthy and naff. A definite case of celebrity-itis. But I'll pop along for a quick peek anyway.

My dad used to take me along to this every year when I was a boy. I expect it's very different now.
My abiding memory was of a display of security devices, presented by the Metropolitan Police. It included the line: "Unfortunately, I'm unable to show you just how effective this window lock is, because somebody's nicked it". Dad dined out on that story for years.

I went to the Ideal Home Show today. It was quite interesting but not hugely valuable. There was a worryingly small focus on the sort of things we're interested in on this forum. There was one stand for solar water heaters and two for spray-on insulating foam for lofts. There was also a small section on recycling. Lots of large plasma TVs and jacuzzis.
