Mouse Problem

Post: # 142306Post mamos »

We have a small mouse problem in our industrial unit. They are are destroying our stock of clothing which is sterting to cost us a lot of money.

We don't want to kill them so we have been trapping them and releasing them in the field outside but we still have a problem so they must be coming back in.

I have plugged all the ways in I can find but the door is open most of the day so they can get in that way.

How far away do we need to release them so they don't find their way back?

We had one mouse... turned out it was alot more than one where I used to live.

NEVER put a mouse outside nearby as they just come right back in again.

In an industrial unit you really need to get some kind of rodent controller to sort it out for you, there's a time to be humane and a time to get a job done imho... not that I like the idea any more than you do but better that than Health and Safety shut you down.

I wish it was possible to borrow a good working cat for these situations.

We dropped them off about three miles away

I think I will start tagging them to see if the same ones turn up

One of the problems at this time of year, Mamos, is that it's cold, so they look to come in somewhere warm.... :?

When I was a young teen, my stepdad boarded up under the stairs & made an under-stair alcove... we used to watch TV at night & listen to the little mice scooting up the hardboard & sliding down again

He eventually gave in & took the whole wall away, leaving them nowhere to hide..... then the neighbours started complaining of a mouse invasion! I suppose it didn't help that I used to leave hamster food out for them tucked away in little corners.......
The more people I meet, the more I like my garden

We released the one particular mouse at the bottom of our 300' long garden, it was back in the house before us! (It had a distinct patch of bare skin), next time we released it on the local park in the nature reserve bit, about 1/2 a mile away...it was back three days later. Please bear in mind we live in a semi, in a street of over 300 houses in a suburb of Leicester. We could only conclude that it was a female with young.

The last time we released her we did so well over a mile away. So far no return! All other mice were also released at this site, in a wooded area behind the police station. We were mouse-free with-in two weeks using the release site.

So I'd say you need to pop 'em in your saddle bag, and go for a long ride, Mamos!

.........so,to summarise, either get a cat or move your unit to a wooded area behind a police station.,(maybe it's the blue lights, or men in uniform!).
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

I've never managed to get rid of the mice here humanely. We;ve had a problem for probably nigh on a decade now.

Find anything that they might be eating, or anything that might be interesting them - like cereals/sugar etc and put it in an airtight container.

Failing that, Rentokil is going to be the only option. Be aware though, that if they're related to oour mice, they will be supermice - ours eat the poison for a treat...
