toilet cleaner?

i have a bio unit installed and need to find a cleaner for the toilets that isnt bleach or chemicals,i have been using vinegar but it isnt taking the stains out,the water is soft so no limescale,i cant use shop cleaners as it will probally get through to the soak away area and i plan to plant fruit and veg there,and it is not recommended anyway ,anyone have a good cleaner that i can make up using natural ingredients?

I use a bicarb/vinegar mix - half of each and it works a treat.

ditto and scrub with a scourer, much better than toilet brushes ...

Ecover never worked for me, and stinks even wore that normal toilet cleaners

I am currently steeping in vinegar, then scrubbing and scrubbing with a toilet brush - below the water level on our loo is coated with some horrendous limescaley type thing (we are soft water her, so I don't know what it is) It has been like that since we moved in 2 years ago, and I have just decided to start tackling it now.... I have been at it a week and it is about half gone.

Hi Shell, we have found that getting the loo clean is not so much about the cleaning agent as the right scourer.

We just use Vinegar but with a metal dish wash scourer and it works a treat.

I am getting nowhere with vinegar and bicarb, took off the thinner stuff easily but where it is really badly caked it is just not budging ... I'll try the metal dishes scourer next thanks for the tips

A bottle of your cheapo cola overnght will get rid of a lot of the rubbish. It's such gut rotting stuff even the bacteria does a runner.

Seriously it will certainly get rid of a lot. Then, if there is lime scale a pair of rubber gloves and pumice stone.

I tried the metal scourer, which has now scratched the porcelain you know, the silvery marks you get from cutlery on crockery sometimes So I hope they fade, and I won't be trying that again....

Cheap cola sounds like an option, though I am really not sure that it is limescale.... might work anyway. I have left it to steep in vinegar overnight again.

Marks from the scourer should disappear in a day or so. It shouldn't have actually "scratched", but is more likely just marks from the scourer itself.

Really surprised it didn't work, it is what we always use.

Hi All,we had a disgusting toilet when we moved in, nearly 2 years ago, and also a septic tank etc I found ecover toilet cleaner rubbish but the cola works to a point but with hard water here I had to repeat the process alternating with cola,vinegar and lots of new scourers(green ones)and also bicarb and after the crusty stuff is away 1 year later! I use the ecover chlorine free bleach for stubborn stains it is laundry bleach and fizzes in the water in the pan and seems to be ok but I still scrub with the vinegar.

The metal scourers did work for me, but the porcelin is marked I hope it will fade but decided it was better than living with crud on the loo.

I can't see it getting that dirty again if I do the occasional vinegar squirt.
