Hiya Ged, nice to see you here!
Black Rocks are what I want to get when I get round to it... I've been told they are very suitable for back garden keeping - not too eager to take off across the fence etc!
I've read about the basics of permaculture, but can't quite envisage yet how it would work in an ordinary garden setting - hope I can learn from you.

Hello there, I must say I permiculture is one of those things that I keep hearing of but have never really got to know about.

I keep hearing about Permaculture too, and have subscribed to the magazine. I should really find out more about it.
Oh, and welcome, Ged.

black rocks and Mallards! An ongoing saga!
Hi Sue and all,
My 5 black rocks lay 3 to 4 eggs per day,The only named hen is the Head hen,Angela, after my SIL!The mallards are a pair, but I was conned when I bought them as I did not know they were 5 years old.Doris laid for about a month,3 eggs per week, since june 05,nothing,but Dickie the duck is still'interested',so I hope to introduce a pair of khaki campbells and see if I can raise some duckling for the table!I am hoping to take delivery of 2 silkies in April, these will be my broody hens as I hope to raise my own chooks to eat as well.I am hoping to keep rabbits for breeding for the table also.Apologies to any 'veggies',but I am an enthusiastic carnivore!
Doris and dickie duck have done a wonderful job in controling the slug/snail population, hence Doris has been retired and has escaped the 'pot'

Hi and welcome!
I've read quite a bit about permaculture and Toni's taken a course, but it's all highly theoretical I think. So far as I can make out it's a matter of thinking holistically about things, but there's a gulf between theory and practice. You can draw up some very pretty plans if you aren't worried about how practical or pretty things are!
