Help with home remedies for poorly foot!

Washing the wound with hydrogen peroxide helps get rid of fungus and inflammation.

Then, I paint tincture of iodine on wounds. It helps heal infections, both fungal and bacterial.

but
two treatments that will work, first is mechanical - when the foot has soaked thin the centre of the nail with the edge of a small scissor blade or nail file (like whittling) thinning the centre from quick to tip. and cut a V shape in the top centre of the nail tip, this draws the edges into the centre and releives pressure. In fact if you can do this when the ingrown nail first starts (or if you're prone to them) it should bring it back into shape

second is a natural magsulph-alike - banana skin white side to the wound and held on with a clean dressing/half a hankie draws out all the bad stuff.

Thanks everyone! Those books look great - now I have some spends from my birthday, think I shall invest!

After soaking his foot again last night, it practically exploded a load of pus out, relieving the swelling somewhat

He has been to the health centre this morning; and they want to remove his toe nail, but have given him a course of AB's as they are reluctant to do anything else whilst it is so badly infected...

It's the toe that he broke when we were attacked by wasps, and it is thought that the break damaged the nail bed, so the nail has not grown back as it should. They hope that removing the nail will give the toe time to heal, and hopefully it will grow back correctly...

Quick anecdote.

As a student nurse, eons ago, I particularly excelled in the operating theatres - to the extent that I was told a job would be available to me, and I was the only student in living memory to be allowed to scrub (assist) for a particularly cantankerous consultant.

Anyway, I assisted in major gastro-intestinal and open heart operations without a flinch. My last week in theatres I was asked to help on a removal of ingrowing toenail - and passed out!
