I say throw out all the books and charts and only see a health visitor or doctor if you really really need to!
Oh and ignore all those who say "isn't s/he crawling yet?" etc, even all the "sitting already, that's early!" kind of comments are harmful IMHO.
My little one is 7 and a half months now. He sat up really early and has been very strong on his feet since a couple of months. He did his first roll last week, shows no interest in crawling, hates 'tummy time' but wants to be standing constantly!
I hate him being compared to his cousins, even if it's in his favour. All kids are different and they'll get to 'it' in their own time!

"It's breaking the circle.
Going to work, to get money, to translate into things, which you use up, which means you go to work again, etc, etc.

Yes, I think I'm coming to exactly that conclusion. She's a happy camper so we'll leave her to it and see what happens. Also, she may have to learn how to walk soon as she's 26 lbs and I don't have bionic arms. Helpfully she's developed a morbid phobia of the papoose and pushchair, preferring to be borne aloft in my arms...yikes. I'm beginning to resemble Fatima Whitbread.......

My tup'pence worth:
Eldest, now 23 years, was 17months before she walked and has just completed a sponsored 50K hike!
Youngest walked at 8 months and the house resembeled a a nuclear bunker....she was into everything & had to be straped into her buggy just so I could nip to the loo! (It was the only way to stop her getting up to summat life threatening.)
On a similar theme.. When HV held up cards for Youngest to identify animals (aged 3), there was a bit of a delay over the first one:
"Don't you know it's a piggy?" She asked.
"Oh yes, I was just trying to work out if it was Saddle Back or a Large Black," she innocently replied!!!

Ha! classic. I'm ashamed to say I caught myself saying to my DH today (in a self pitying way) 'but why can't she be like the other babies?' .
I have officially lost my mind.
I have to say in my defence that I really don't want her to be like anyone but her. I just need to remind myself of that. But I think it's harder to say that when your is the one miles behind in development. She's clearly just an individual. God help us once she's a teenager..............

Re: Late walking baby.....
that happened with our second youngest at his 2 year check up,they asked if he could say his brothers namesAnnpan wrote:My E was 16 or 17 months before she walked - I haven't taken her to see the HV since she was 4 months - except for jabs. I was so sick of "she's too fat", she's too thin", "she's too short", "she's too tall", "she's too slow", "she's too clever"...... GIVE ME STRENGTH!!! When I do go to the doctor or HV I won't have her height measured or her weighed - she looks healthy, she acts healthy, she is healthy.
Unless your child has a problem, and you will know when she does, please stop worrying and tell the HV to stuff it, politley obviously![]()
And you can always ask questions here, we've all been there, its part of being a parent.![]()

then when his older brother had his 2 year check up he passed that and the 3 year old one ,they said he was one of the brightest in the area then turned round and started picking on his speach so we only take them in for jabs when we want too now.

Re: Late walking baby.....
my first one pulled himself up to stand at 6 months and was beetling around confidently by a month later. The second one pulled himself up at about 7 months and was walking and climbing confidently by 9 months. As a result, both dh and I are exhausted, my mum and uncle are exhausted, I never had any gossip, as I could never sit still to chat, with pests racing off and climbing up age-inapproapriate toys, and they house is destroyed, I can never garden in a relaxed fashion, and I am constantly stooped from holding hands at a low level.
The dh and I occasionally look yearningly at small girls sitting drawing, or doll-ing. But our two are brilliant and we wouldn't swap them. But we are constantly knackered, and I have never finished a cup of tea. Your child will walk, in time, and then you will find yourself thinking longingly back to the time they sat still.
