What is the most unusual present you are giving this year?

Post: # 134065Post sleepyowl »

Because of many reasons I can't make everyone's presents, biggest factors are time & resources (funds have led me to be resourceful though, as a couple of presents are second hand & cost me nothing as they were salvaged when my friend was chucking a load of stuff out) I was left with buying 4 people presents which is 7 less than last year through being a little Self Sufficientish

I always have to think of something different for my mum or I'll end up buying her jewellery year in year out & seeing as though she can only wear gold & silver due metal allergies gets rather expensive so this year I'm giving her a cold http://www.giantmicrobes.com/uk/product ... ncold.html the cutest is chlamydia but you can't give that to your mother

And my sister wants a bird book (I almost fainted as she was never much into nature when we were growing up unlike me, she was just into rock music & guys, I should have guessed we'd turn out similar)

A pressure cooker and a gas saver (thingy you put on the gas ring to make it more efficient. These are for daughter who is taking over the utility bills in the new year.

Thanks Sleepyowl, for the link to the Giant Microbes website! It has solved the problem of what to give my husband!

IOU's for gifts... we have no spare cash so everyone is getting a card, some fridge magnets and IOU's for something nice when we are in a better financial situation and we are insisting that everyone else does the same for us.

Sounds miserable I know but it isn't as we are going to get to spend some quality time with family in the New Year :cooldude:

Sorry to be a bit off topic but have you used one of these gas savers GA ?
I have looked at adverts for these in the past and couldn't make up my mind if they would work or if it's a bit of a con.

No, Odsox, we're all electric up here so it's not an option. It wasn't expensive though - about £6 inc p+p - so I figured it would be a good, if slightly strange, present.

Re the alleged Gas Saver thingy - we bought one a couple of months ago, and I'm not entirely convinced it works, or at least not noticably. However, the flame makes the wiry bits glow bright orange, and it does retain heat after you've turned the gas off, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt at the moment.
My DH is not at all impressed and swears it's just a part of a grand plan by the Chinese govt to undermine the Western economy...he's a bit hung up on that particular theory at the moment...!
