For my 35th birthday (2006) my partner asked what I wanted. With two full-time wages coming in, we could afford most things, so money wasn't a problem. However, I told him the thing I wanted most was to spend a day just with him. We had two teenagers in school, and I was 8.5 months pregnant, so I knew that this would be my last chance for a very long time to spend a day just being in love (sorry, I know you're all :pukeright: -ing, but I bet you're all a bit :love3: -y when you get the chance  ). OH felt a bit stingey not buying me a present, but I didn't need anything, and there was nothing I wanted that could be bought. It was a lovely birthday.

As for cards, I don't send them to people I live with. I used to have to when I lived in my parents :bootyshake: house, or they would sulk and say I didn't care. I send them to other relatives, because I never, ever see them, and like them to know I'm thinking of them. Same with some friends that I don't see very often. I also send to neighbours, because they send them to me and it's just the 'done thing' around here. I think it's important to keep the harmony with your neighbours.

Thanks pixie socks-would help if I had spelled it properly!!!!
And I would like to consider it creative swearing with an authentic root - we use the word as a real insult in our house.

And I took the one less travelled by
And that has made all the difference.

Dear StipeyPixiesocks,

Thank you for enlightening me, now I only have to judge the right moment to drop it into a chindoguesque conversation ...... (Invisiblepiper, you've got me at it now! Adding French suffixes to an idiom originally from the Japanese to make an English adjectival swearword! You've really started something ....)

Love and Peace
Jim

To get back on subject, cards to close friends, presents to close family, gluttonous amounts of food and drink for immediate family on the day!

Who steals the Common from the goose.
