What small thing have you looked up recently?
I find the internet is so useful for looking up snippets of information that I just wouldn't bother to do if I had to rely on books. For example, we went to a local farm shop recently and stopped to look at the animals. Katie asked what some were and I didn't know if they were alpacas or llamas and there was no-one around to ask. I've just looked it up and found out that llamas are bigger and have banana-shaped ears, so we were looking at alpacas.
What small thing have you looked up recently (and what was the answer)?

I looked up the difference between a british billion and an American Billion but the answer was to confusing for my mathematically challenged brain so I'm still not much the wiser.
(I also looked up the words to Rasputin by Boney M, back story to that too long to explain!)

Blimey, I'm constantly looking at information on the net!
I use ixquick as my search engine, no adverts & the pages load quicker... my recent searches include....
Chainsaw chain suppliers in Ireland - failed!
Plant identification - a mixture of success & failure!
General prices for 5 bar gates.....
A search for anyone sellng pallets cheaply... or giving them away - nearly a success....
Burlesque make up tips for the youngest daughter back in the UK....
Job searches for the same daughter....
A tax calculator to make sure our tax relief on our mortgage payment was correct... 's ok, it was!
And many, many more......
Julie.

I just looked up the UK v UK billion question too - they are now both the same, British used to be a million million but we reverted to the American thousand million in the 70's to keep communication clear.

Really? So I'm just being stubborn and out-dated by insisting a billion is a million million thenAnnpan wrote:I just looked up the UK v UK billion question too - they are now both the same, British used to be a million million but we reverted to the American thousand million in the 70's to keep communication clear.

When the wombats were visiting me, we were about to leave to spend the day in Glasgow and I said I just needed to put my shoes on.... they agreed "yes, it's not a good idea to walk around in thongs all day"......lolololol
I have been googling for Obama08 memorabilia for JohnM's christmas... but can't find any good stuff that can be delivered outside USA

Re: What small thing have you looked up recently?
I Google just about everything.
1) I hardly ever touch the cookbooks anymore, just look up any recipe I want and pick the most authentic looking response.
2) I have a shareware version of Scrabble which has an American dictionary - so I have to Google words all the time to check they're real (some are very bizarre!).
3) Anything I'm looking at on ebay I google to check I can't get a better deal elsewhere - often the sellers own websites are cheaper.
4) Gardening tips that neighbours can't answer - we have quite a short growing season up here so I look at north American advice. Not exactly the same but quite good.
5) Sources for local stuff (by local I'm talking up to 150 miles away!)
6) Translators - with both Welsh and Finnish SILs I like to send them a little message and have found these useful.

Re: What small thing have you looked up recently?
Well I looked up who won the US election yesterday morning!
I am so amazed that no-one has been talking about it on this forum. Every other forum is buzzing on the subject.
I think it is very sad that no-one here seems to care.

Re: What small thing have you looked up recently?
Blimey you would have thought that would have been an easy question to answer wouldn't you but... I can't seem to remember a single thing which is strange as I look up hundreds of things a day.
I tend to look up Photoshop tutorials a fair bit so it was probably one of the 'how do I' searches and it probably ended up with me spending rather more time than I should fiddling about on Photoshop.
I looked up whether a monitor that my OH's uncle gave us was a monitor for a PC or a flat screen TV... it was a TV which got Freecycled immediately
I tend to use StumbleUpon quite alot and although that's not strictly searching or looking something up I learn alot of stuff from there...

Nothing small.
Been researching how to make woodburning stoves/water heaters and solar hot water play well with Combi Boilers.
The answers have been of questionable use.

Once while making a picture order tick chart (IYKWIM) for the polish cleaner at work, I googles for images of J cloths. Lets just say if the first image was anything to go by I wouldn't have wiped it on my bench but I could have rodded my drains with it!
