Anything to do with growing herbs and vegetables goes here.

OK to move leeks?

Post: # 129333Post Rosendula »

I'm in the process of digging my allotment and have got 5/28ths of the way through  . Problem is, my leeks are in the way. Should I dig around them, or do you think it's OK to transplant them to a more convenient place?

would think it would be ok to move them, they are fairly hardy, try and take as much of the earth with them as possibly so as to disrupt the roots as little as possible. I move veg all the time, usually with no problems.

I would dig around them! Presumably that patch was dug over when you planted them? You can dig your muck/compost in when you have eaten all the leeks.
