A brilliant idea - which you may already know.

I've just heard a brilliant idea from my neighbour which is completely new to me. Of course many of you may already have thought of this one.

When removing the side shoots from their tomato plants they stuck some of them in pots. These are far behind the original plants so now, when the big plants are nearly done they've got several vigorous young tomato plants just starting to put on trusses. They're hoping to be picking tomatoes well into the winter.

I know the tomatoes may not ripen because the days are shortening, but it's easy enough to ripen green tomatoes after picking. The plants, by the way, are in an unheated conservatory.

as a newbie grower, i didnt know that and wouldnt have thought of it....my toms didnt do very well this yr!.
