Watch the roots - we got some a couple of years ago and the roots on some were very small.

Even so, for £1.29, even if only 1 in 5 survive your beating most on cost.

1 of my blackberry was missing its roots, just a stalk in some mud, plenty of fertiliser, well dug soil, even small uns will be fine.
Obviously that one wont be

My raspberry was just a twig :(
Hubby put it in ground anyway, we don't know if it's a cutting or supposed to have roots...?

They seem to have fruit trees this week, out today.

Question is, how clear does the ground have to be to plant fruit trees into? We have an area covered in comfrey and nettles, that grow about 4/5 foot high through the summer. Could I plonk some tree in there (with suitable support) and leave them be, or do you think there would be too much competition?

Thanks, Cassie

Hi folks,

I got a gooseberry and a blackcurrant bush, (well not really bushes but you know what I mean!) a couple of weeks ago and haven't planted them out yet. they are still in the carboard things and sitting on my porch. Weird thing is that they seem to be growing quite well? New shoots sprouting etc.

I can't plant them out into a bed as I rent so was intending to get pots and compost and plant them in those for the time being. However.. I also need to get my motorbike serviced this month and that has to come first as its downright dangerous at the moment :pale: , that means I can't afford the pots etc.

Soooooo... Question is (finally) how long do you think I can leave them as they are without them dying?

any ideas?

Could you pop them in the ground over winter and pot them up at your leisure? or are you in a flat? I have to admit my fruit bushes did better in pots than they have in the ground this year.
