my mum used to make this, she can't remember the recipe but i have a feeling if the cold weather continues i may have to make it too lol!


anyone got a recipe for this?!

Here's the really basic recipe which my Grandma used to make. No amounts are given but it's so easy that they can be fairly flexible anyway. Best in a very thick pan or it might burn.

Chop your green tomatoes and about half as many onions. If you like the chutney to be quite smooth you can whizz them up in a food processor. Add plenty of cider vinegar, some grated fresh ginger, plenty of sultanas, black peppercorns and some soft brown sugar. You can add sliced apples and sliced red peppers too. Bring mixture to slow boil over medium heat, then simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently to prevent scorching, for 30 minutes. Bottle in sterilised jars and leave for at least week before eating.

brilliant,was just wondering what to do with my tomato`s,none have gone even yellow,and i put bannana skins round them the other day,thanks for that

I pretty much followed the river cottage cookbook recipe, which uses a couple of courgettes too and a cooking apple for the pectin and various spices - though next time I will do twice as many, I do like a spicy chutney. :mrgreen:

we invented this sweet curried green tomato chutneywhen we had blight. we like it so much we said we ould pick the toms green on purpose! - but as it goes had blight again, so made plenty
