im currently building a large vegetable patch for next year. This involves putting a layer of topsoil aprox 2 foot deep over the entire area (70ft x 50ft) ive got the soil, that is not a propblem. But i have ducks geese and chickens and what i want to know is could i put this waste bedding of hay straight into the bottom of this plot before i put the topsoil in? and mix it in with the soil?
im thinking it would have a good 6 months to rot down but would this be ok?
the crops will be mainly beans, cabbbages etc
many thanks

Re: chicken duck and geese bedding
Brilliant way to get good quality fert into the topsoil. I do this every year, to bulk up one garden bed or another, and put several months of straight chook poop onto the ground and then leave it for a month or more (sometimes a whole season) before forking it into the soil.
Wish I had enough topsoil to re-do a large garden area!
Cheers
