The Selfsufficientish Urban Guide to Foraging - Courses

We are pleased to offer a unique experience, namely day courses foraging wild food in an Urban Environment.

Throughout the day we will endeavor to impart out wild food knowledge and hopefully have some fun as we do so. Amongst other things you will -

* Find out what town planners decided to plant for design purposes that we can eat!
* Be taught how to keep yourself in condiments for nothing!
* Find out what plants traveled here from foreign lands
* Learn about what plants have been used on these shores for healing all sorts off ills in centuries past.
* Learn new facts about the wild foods you already know.

As there are two of us teaching you how to forage and the groups are fairly small you might find it easier to ask questions and therefore enrich your foraging experience. We will not just be telling you what foods are around now but also will point out plenty of plants to help you identify your dinner throughout the year.
Foraging Course Dates and booking

Foraging Course Costs

Having slightly socialist leanings course fees are unique in that we only ask you to pay what you think the forage is worth or what you are able to afford. However please bare in mind we still have bills to pay so unfortunately we can't offer the course for free. Have a look around online and you will notice that courses can vary in price wildly (no pun intended) the high end being over £100 and low end nearer £30 or £40.
Foraging Course Venue and directions

We meet at St Werburghs Farm Cafe in Bristol -To get directions please click here. The nearest train stations are Montpellier or Stapleton Road Station for times and fares click here.

The nearest bus stop is the number 25. You can use Traveline typing in post code BS2 9TJ. For complete details of public transport from where you live.

What to wear and what to expect

There is a long walk involved and short local train ride. So please bring water proofs, walking boots and if you are scared of trains then do let us know in advance and we shall try and organize the course accordingly.

Well yes as it happens. I am trying out the traveling forager, this is where I turn up to your area the day before suss out an appropriate route. Then turn up and forage for you and a group. It sounds expensive at £200 plus travel, accommodation and meals expenses but if you get a group of say 10 people together it can work out cheaper than the Bristol based courses that we do and any other forage that you might find. I decided to charge for the two days rather than per person.
