Hello

Hi all

I have been growing chili plants here on the south coast for about five years now. I've finally got my act together and am primed to grow my chilis organically from this year. 8)
Additionally, I've taken the plunge and am growing herbs (various, edible) and sweet peppers.

Hi Chili Monster - welcome to the forum!

I think that's one plant I won't try to grow myself - have managed peppers in the polytunnel, but they stayed quite small... I'll leave the hot stuff to you down south!

Cheers
Ina

I have a few different types of chilli seeds will have a go with them myself this year I think. - Do you grow them indoors or out?

Hi all & thanks for the warm welcome.
In reply to Your post, Andy, I grow my chili pepper plants outside. Although not obligatory, containers (20 ") are best if you plan to overwinter (but that's a topic in its own right!). Choose a sunny spot that offers some protection from the wind.
Chili plants are related to tomatoes and require good drainage and weekly, heavy feeds.
They love sand and so be sure to mix some in.
Also, for the chance of a good crop, plant seed soon -the earlier, the better. Many growers start around Dec/Jan, although I've got away with February on more than one occasion. Propagate indoors (ca.20 degrees C) -an airing cupboard is a good place. Pot on: (3), 7, 15 cm and finally into 20 cm pots OR 3 plants to a Growbag OR directly into soil 18" apart when the nighttime temperature stops falling below 10 degrees C. In practice, this is usually mid to late May.
Hope this helps!!!

Hi Chili Monster and welcome! I hope I do better with my chilli plant next year - I bought one from an agri shop and I had a wonderful crop of red chilli shaped no-heat-whatsoever peppers. I was soooo disappointed as I can't buy hot chillies here easily (the ones in the supermarket that look like green chillies aren't hot either!!).

(Mind you, did buy some from an Asian shop recently and they are REAL ones!! phew!)

Hiya Chili Monster :hello2:

I grew my first chili plant with great success - that is until i tried to move it to another spot - it really did not like me after that :(

So with my dried out chili seeds i am now trying to bring new ones into this world - if successful i wont be re-locating these ones!

Any tips you could pass on would be greatful
