what can I do now?

Post: # 122495Post Loobyloo »

Hello there!

I kind of missed the boat on veg growing this year as we thought we might have to move so I was loathed to start loads of work for no return. In the end we have stayed put and I have no veg. I'm pretty muich a complete novice when it comes to this so I want to get it all right for next year.

What should i be doing now in preparation for next year? I only have containers as we rent so I can't go digging up the garden. I saw in one thread that there are some winter varieties that can still be grown. Is it too late now?
I was also thinking of trying to grow some tomatoes and chillis indoors as we have a big skylight in the kitchen so its a really bright room.

Any advice would be welcome though I understand its a quite a vague question I have asked!!! :?

In my experience, chilies do really well on a kitchen windowsill, although I would go for a smaller variety so you don't get swamped! Never tried tomatoes in the house though.

There are loads of winter salads you can grow in pots - we're planning some as catch crops having dug-up never-ending amounts of potatoes and snipping the spent mangetout and bean plants back to ground level.

Hope that's helpful, if not very specific!

not sure tomatoes will work indoors to actually bear fruit. Chillis work exceptionally well indoors as they're self polinating (most varieties). I'm planning to try keeping my lettuce bucket indoors soon as it's getting too cold for them to be outdoors (they're not happy :( )

everything I grow is in planters 'cos we rent too.
