We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

I just found this site today and it is brilliant. I would love to be self sufficient but just about manage self-sufficient-ish, with the emphasis on the ish! I like to think we are fairly self reliant anyway.

I live in Essex with my husband, our 3 kids, dog, 2 cats and 3 chickens. We hope to rescue some ex battery chickens soon as we are moving house and will have a much bigger garden. (interested to hear from anybody who has done this)

Grow quite a bit of food on our allotment, including masses of fruit so I am becoming a bit of a jam expert. I look forward to getting lots of tips from the forum.

wellcome chickenlady
The smallest goal achieved stands taller than the grandest intention. Do whatever your heart leads you to do - but do it.
As for chicken rescue, first get yourself a balaclava.... 8)

Blimey! I wasn't planning a raid on Bernard Matthews! I was just going to contact a few chicken torturers and ask nicely if they would give me a few of the poor creatures they would normally send for catfood after a year or so of laying. Failing that, I know there is a woman in the West Country who rescues and rehomes chickens. I am told they continue to lay very well and go from scraggy little beasts with no feathers to splendid specimens after a few weeks of TLC.

Sorry, chickenlady, was joking (ok, half joking) - I do have an off the rail sense of humour at times  I should introduce newbies more gently to it
