Can anyone suggest the reason why some (a significant number - but not all) of my runner beans are shrivelled and yellow and dry?
They get like this early after they have set and then continue to grow until about 6 inches long - when they drop off or I pull them off.

Re: Runner Bean problems
Hi Christine, i've had the same problem this year(sporadically), & found a good remedy is to give 'em a good dose of tomato feed. Seems to do the trick.
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

I have found this too, although I have had an enormous crop because I grew too many this being my first attempt! However I did see that some of the flowers turn into these funny dried out yellowy mini beans that just drop off. I don't know what causes that because they've obviously been pollinated by the bees.

Right - tomato feed it is, then! despite copious quantities of the stuff on aubergines and tomatoes and chillis, I'll be lucky to see any of those before October - what with the dull skies and low temperatures. Reassuring to know mine are not the only sulky beans, though!
