Letter to T***o

My local coffee shop also sells DVD's in order to stay afloat (financially it's not a boat), T***o has started to sell DVD's for £1 less, this really is how supermarkets push the smaller and friendlier business out of the picture. I am writing to my mp about it. Won't do much good by myself, if others were to join in and try and champion their local area to their mp it might,

The idea of going into a coffee shop and able to browse through and buy DVD's, Cd's or books is one of the most decedent things you can do... just bliss. I don't do the letter thing its just a waste of paper I just avoid supermarkets and tell folks of the wonderful coffee and chat you had while purchasing you DVD's ...

Have pity on those of us in the north of Scotland. I hate T***o too. They now have a near monopoly, having bought out all the S@m£rf!£lds in the area ( having said that , they were rubbish too, IMHO). The only alternative is the Co-op, which I find a bit expensive.

We've been here a year now and despite living in the middle of crofting land, I can't find anywhere to buy meat from the animals I see all around. I guess they're all being sold to London restaurants, or some central storage depot for the supermarkets, to then be transported back again, I suppose.

What a shame. Butchers have made a real comeback round here but I guess thats because the few thata re here have weathered a really tough storm. Supermarkets ahve always traded on lost leaders, I remember that being pointed out to me 25 years ago.

I keep praying for the downfall but as they decapitate local businesses you endup with no choice. I won't go to T***o but I will go to Co-op as they have better morals regarding their suppliers and other local busineses. We are really lucky to have a good one nearby, but there are some things they don't stock for which the only realistic thing is a supermarket. Hard margerine for pastry, wine vinegar for mayonnaise, red lentils are the regular ones. The beast of the supermarkets in terms of morals I think is Waitrose so thats where I go for those few things. It's a stand I think and I tell everyone who listens how the morals matter.

Funnily enough evryone believes they save so much miney going to those superstores. Since I ahve stopped my shopping bill has halved! Its' this lost leader thing again. They say the milk is 2p cheaper but get you buying 3 bags of apples for the price of 2 when you could oly really eat one before they go off because they've been abused so much.

Shame on the councils who are usually bribed by these guys or at the very least pushed over. It would be great to co-ordiante a campaign but the hard thing is it's local issues and they don't get much airing nowadays.

I feel better now for that rant anyway- hope the coffee shop survives

I dont buy alot of meat, in fact very rarely but if and when I do, I try and go to the local butcher, who sources locally. It is more expensive but you get what you pay for, dont you?
